At its annual conference, the N.C. Association of County Clerks (NCACC) recognized Melissa Long, New Hanover County deputy clerk to the board, as its recipient of the 2024 Howard Holly Outstanding Clerk of the Year Award.
The annual honor is presented in recognition of a clerk’s accomplishments and distinguished contributions to local government in North Carolina, according to a news release.
Long, who previously served as clerk to the board in Pender County, has been deputy clerk for New Hanover County since 2021 and just finished her term as NCACC president from 2024-25. She holds the designation of North Carolina master county clerk, as well as the master municipal clerk designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
