CFCC Earns Military Friendly Designation

By Staff Reports, posted Mar 21, 2023
Cape Fear Community College recently announced that it has earned the 2023-2024 Military Friendly School designation, according to a news release.

This year, CFCC received gold status. Gold award winners have programs that scored within 20% of the 10th-ranked institution within their category. The Military Friendly School designation is awarded yearly by VIQTORY, a service-disabled, veteran-owned business.

"This award recognizes higher education institutions that provide the best opportunities for veterans and their families. Institutions earning the designation were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey," the release stated.

"We are thrilled to be again recognized as a military-friendly school,” said Jason Bocchino, CFCC veterans affairs coordinator. “CFCC’s commitment to supporting military students and their families is commendable, and we are committed to ensuring that our efforts make a real difference in the lives of these students and their families.”

CFCC president Jim Morton said in the release, “We recognize the sacrifices that military families make and are committed to providing them with the resources and support they need to succeed.”

CFCC houses a veterans center at the Wilmington campus and two other veteran lounges at the North Campus in Castle Hayne and the Alston W. Burke Center in Surf City.

The release stated, "These spaces provide veterans with resources and a place to decompress and build relationships with one another. In addition, CFCC offers priority registration to veteran benefit holders."
