Brunswick County Commissioner Marty Cooke has been appointed chair of the Statewide Interoperability Executive Committee Governance Working Group, according to a news release.

The Statewide Interoperability Executive Committee (SIEC) is a “subcommittee of North Carolina’s State Emergency Response Commission, which is responsible for providing guidance to state and local agencies regarding disaster planning, mitigation, emergency response and anti-terrorism,” officials said in the release.

Part of the SIEC’s work has to do with communications systems, Cooke said.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve in this capacity,” Cooke said in the release. “Some of the things we have discussed and worked on were actually active during Hurricane Florence. We’re constantly looking at better ways to refine communications throughout our state to be proactive, responsive and effective, regardless of the type and scale of the event.”
