Cape Fear Community College has recognized three employees for their contributions to the college, its students and the community, according to a news release.

President Jim Morton presented the awards to Peggy Lupton, Brantley McKeithan and Mike Smith on Aug. 15 at the college’s annual in-service program, officials said in the release.

Lupton, a music Instructor, received the Marilyn Goodman Anderson Excellence in Teaching award.

This award is given annually to “an outstanding faculty member, the award honors instructors for their significant and positive impact on students, mastery of subject, outstanding teaching philosophy, and student satisfaction,” officials said in the release, adding that recipients of the award receive a $2,000 stipend.

Officials said that the selection committee nominated Lupton based on her student-centered teaching philosophy, dedication to students, instructional methods and teaching style.

McKeithan and Smith received the President’s Awards, which recognize their outstanding efforts and contributions to the college and the community, officials said.

Nominators acknowledged McKeithan, learning management system coordinator, for his contributions to the faculty and staff that serve the online student population.

“His colleagues characterize him as a ‘lifesaver,’ witty, funny, and easy-going. McKeithan was recognized for anticipating the needs of CFCC’s online student population and for never hesitating to offer training to faculty, staff, and students,” officials said in the release.

Smith, CFCC program director for plumbing, completed more than 65 service projects with his students this past year, assisting both the Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry and Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity. He was also acknowledged for his dedication to his students, officials said.
