Landfall Foundation Awards $4K To Good Shepherd Center

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Jan 16, 2018
The Landfall Foundation has awarded the Good Shepherd Center $4,000.

The funds will be used to ensure the provision of affordable housing placement, first month’s rent support and follow-up case management to homeless disabled seniors and families with children, according to a news release.

“The generosity of the Landfall Foundation is extraordinarily important to our mission,” Executive Director Katrina Knight, said in the release. “Without these funds, we struggle to provide the intensive combination of support necessary to return homeless adults and children to housing and ensure that they remain housed.

"The Landfall Foundation has enabled Good Shepherd to become a different kind of shelter—one that goes beyond emergency services to make a lasting difference in the lives of our neighbors in crisis,” she said.

The mission of the Landfall Foundation is to provide funds to local nonprofit organizations for programs and projects that provide for the arts, education, and health and welfare in the greater Wilmington area.

The Landfall community has a long tradition of partnering with Good Shepherd, officials said in the release. Previous grants from the Foundation have supported employment training programs, renovation of the Soup Kitchen and purchase of healthy food.

Some 50 Landfall residents volunteer weekly in the organization’s Soup Kitchen, Second Helpings food salvage program and Night Shelter.

In addition, the Country Club of Landfall hosts Good Shepherd’s annual golf tournament, our most significant fundraiser. In 2018, the foundation will celebrate Good Shepherd’s 35th anniversary and the 15th Landfall golf tournament.
