Coastal Carolina Surgical Associates (CCSA) has announced the addition of individualized prosthetic care to its services, according to a news release.
"With the surgeon and prosthetist working together under one roof in close collaboration for each patient, this new program is unique ...," officials said in the release.
The addition of prosthetic care will allow the surgeons to provide care for the full restoration of the patient’s vitality and mobility.
CCSA welcomes Marc Karn, an experienced and certified prosthetist, to its staff.
CCSA has established an in-house prosthetic department and prosthetic laboratory to enable efficient and effective fitting and adjustments to the patient’s prosthesis. Each patient will receive individualized attention, fitting and onsite adjustment of their prosthesis.
"I welcome the opportunity to now work directly with the surgeons as part of their team," Karn said in the release. "For the new amputee patient, I feel that now much more can be offered to the patient earlier in the process when the surgeon needs to rescue the patient from the disease process with amputation surgery."
"From the beginning, the surgeon and prosthetist design together with the surgery and the prosthesis to meet that patient’s goals," he said. "For the existing amputee patient that has a prosthesis that may have begun facing challenges of pain or fit problems, CCSA can help. Not necessarily with additional surgery, but evaluation by both a surgeon who is knowledgeable of all the internal parts of the limb affected by amputation surgery along with a prosthetist that can offer solutions of prosthetic design to face these challenges.”
The practice consists of five expert surgeons, three physician assistants and now an on-site certified prosthetist.
The surgeons specialize in various areas such as bariatric surgery, vascular surgery, and general surgery to name a few. Other amenities offered at Coastal Carolina Surgical Associates include an ultrasound lab, wound care services, vein care services, a thyroid clinic and comprehensive breast care services.
