Herb Harton, cinematographer of IATSE Local 600 will lead the Southeastern North Carolina Central Labor Council after its former chapter president William Whalen resigned, according to a news release.

Whalen resigned last month to focus on his work at the post office and as president of APWU Local 145, the release stated.

Harton was the Central Labor Council (CLC) chapter’s vice president before moving up. Michael Hill, business development representative for IBEW Local 495, was named vice president.

Harton is an active member of the International Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600.

The Southeastern North Carolina CLC is one of eight local AFL-CIO chapters in North Carolina, according to the release. It represents cinematographers, postal workers and electricians as well as studio and stage mechanics, factory workers, bus drivers, phone company workers and longshoremen at the Port of Wilmington, among others.
