Senior Resource Center Director Earns Area Award

Amber Smith, New Hanover County Senior Resource Center director, has been recognized with the 2016 Area Agency on Aging Professional Excellence Award.
 
The annual award is presented by the Cape Fear Council of Governments and is presented to an outstanding individual in the Cape Fear area, according to a news release.
 
Smith began working with the Senior Resource Center (SRC) in 2001 and has worked through the center in varying capacities including coordinating the retired and senior volunteer program and serving as a social worker for the SRC Life Enrichment Program and the Department of Social Services Adult Protective Services, according to the release.
 
In 2015, Smith became the director of the SRC and has continued to implement programs that assist adults throughout the county.
 
“New Hanover County is lucky to have Amber serving each and every day to keep our seniors safe, healthy and secure,” Deputy County Manager Avril Pinder said in the news release.
