Statewide Building Awards Honor Wilmington Projects

The third annual Building North Carolina awards, selected from projects completed between July 1, 2015, and June 30, includes a fine arts center and an office building in Wilmington.

The Allan and Laura Wilson Humanities and Fine Arts Center took tops honors for overall design. The facility on the Cape Fear Community College campus is 150,000 square feet and serves as both a theater and classroom.

The architect on the project was LS3P of Charleston, and the contractor was Edifice of Charlotte.
 
In addition the office building at 101 N. Third St. received an honorable mention in the commercial project category.
 
The 67,000 square foot, five story building is anchored by BB&T, and also home to the law firm Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP and LS3P’s Wilmington offices.
 
The architect of the project was also LS3P, and the contractor was Barnhill Contracting Inc., Rocky Mount.
 
The awards showcase commercial structures based on their design, innovation and community impact, and are doled out by Business North Carolina magazine.
