Sigvaldsen Named To WWII Coalition Board

By Hunter Joyner, posted Feb 9, 2016
The World War II Wilmington Home Front Heritage Coalition recently named Doreen Isherwood Sigvaldsen to its board of directors.

The coalition is an all-volunteer, history preservation organization. It aims to identify, preserve, and interpret the wartime legacy of southeastern North Carolina, according to a news release.

Sigvaldsen, born in the U.K., has strong WWII and military ties. She recently became a U.S. citizen, but as a small child she experienced life with American troops stationed in England. Her father-in-law led a 47 marine commando assault on Gold Beach, Normandy, on D-Day, according to the release.

Sigvaldsen earned an arts degree in London and at University of North Carolina Wilmington. She is a chartered physiotherapist and has worked closely with WWII veterans. She is also the published author of Edith Cavell: A Casualty of Conscience, a recent novel about the execution of a famous British WWI nurse.

She joins chairman Wilbur Jones, vice chairman Jean Lawler, counsel Algernon Butler III, treasurer Jennifer Presnell, secretary Katherine Rudeseal, John Meyer and Dave Spetrino on the coalition board.
