Payne Named To New Post With Literacy Council

By Jenny Callison, posted Jan 5, 2016
A member of the Cape Fear Literacy Council staff has taken a new position with the organization. Erin Payne (at left), CFLC’s former community outreach coordinator, has been named the literacy council’s new director of fund development, and has successfully completed her first project in that capacity.

Payne’s career has focused on the nonprofit sector, according to a news release from the organization. She has served as the executive director of several nonprofits and has raised more than $5 million for various local and national causes.

Involved with CFLC since 2009, Payne began there as a member of the council’s board and joined the staff in 2013. She holds a master's degree in public administration with a concentration in nonprofit management from University of North Carolina Wilmington.

“Together with CFLC’s Executive Director, Yasmin Tomkinson, and the organization’s Fund Development Committee, she will be responsible for securing funding for the Literacy Council’s annual $500,000 budget,” the release stated.

Payne’s first project as director of fund development was to conduct the council’s 30 FOR 30 Campaign, a two-week fundraising initiative in November that raised more than $30,000 to celebrate the organization’s 30 years of service to the community and engaged many new donors.

The Literacy Council serves more than 500 students each year with the support of a staff of eight and more 340 volunteers, according to the release.
