Chad M. Fortun has joined the staff of Carolina Sports Medicine as an orthopedic surgeon, the practice announced in a recent news release.

“Having spent an additional year of training in sports medicine, [Fortun] enjoys taking care of athletes of all levels and ages and specializes in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle to optimize his patients’ level of function with less pain and a faster recovery,” the release stated, adding that the surgeon “brings specialized training and interest in hip preservation surgery through the use of surgical hip dislocation and hip arthroscopy.”

Fortun began his career as a licensed physical therapist, then attended Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. After graduation, he completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the university, whose hospital provided coverage for the NFL’s Cleveland Browns as well as many high school and college athletes, according to the release.

Following his residency at Case Western, Fortun took an additional year of specialized training in sports medicine, arthroscopy and reconstructive surgery at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute. There he worked with school, collegiate and professional athletes, the release stated.

Fortun is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy.
