Carl Weatherington has joined Thomas Construction Group as its environmental safety and health director, the Wilmington-based company announced recently.

In a career as a safety and health director for several Fortune 500 companies, Weatherington has developed safety and health programs and been responsible for workers’ compensation and environmental compliance, the announcement news release stated, adding that Weatherington has completed more than 5,000 hours of certified safety, health, fire and emergency medicine training during his career.

Weatherington has worked as an OSHA compliance officer and also served as a safety consultant for the N.C. Department of Labor’s Consultative Services Bureau, helping small employers create safety and health programs and safety regulations compliance, according to the release.

He was instrumental in assisting several companies, including Thomas Construction Group, achieve the SHARP award from the Department of Labor.

“With his 40-plus years of experience as a safety and health professional, Carl will bring a vast wealth of knowledge to our clients’ projects. He will be a key contributor to our culture of client advocacy,” Chris Reid, president of Thomas Construction Group, said in the release.

The construction firm also announced that it is included in Engineering News-Record magazine’s 2015 list, Top Contractors in the Southeast. The list inclusion comes as Thomas Construction Group celebrates its 10th business anniversary.

“We are happy for the acknowledgement of success amongst our peers,” Reid said in the release.
