NHC Schools' Board Appoints Clark, Babb

By Jenny Callison, posted Jul 21, 2015
The New Hanover County Board of Education recently made appointments to two boards for which it has responsibility.

It chose Rebecca Clark to serve on the D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy Advisory Board and named John Babb to the Cape Fear Community College Board of Trustees. The school board is responsible for appointing four of the CFCC board’s 13 members, in staggered terms.

"Both appointees will make valuable additions to the boards they have been selected to serve. Mrs. Clark and Mr. Babb are exceptional leaders in their respective fields and I am confident in these selections," NHC Board of Education chairman Donald Hayes said in a news release.

Clark replaces Bill Sterret, whose term expired in June. After a career in education that spanned 30 years, during which she earned national board certification, she retired from her teaching position at Virgo this year, the release stated. She was honored as the 2014-2015 Middle School Teacher of the Year.

Babb is a military veteran and has more than 40 years of experience in federal law enforcement. In his most recent position, he served as an enforcement instructor with the Federal Law Enforcement Academy.

Babb replaces C. Bruce Williams, whose term on the CFCC board expired in June.
