Architecture firm LS3P has been honored by two entities for its designs for buildings in the Wilmington area, the firm announced recently.

The N.C. Building Commission presented LS3P and construction contractor Shelco with a Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Project Implementation for their work on Cape Fear Community College’s Union Station project, according to a news release.

Union Station, a 250,000-square-foot academic, administration and special events building was built on the site of the former Atlantic Coastline railway headquarters. Its traditional brick and wood architectural elements reference the site’s railway history, and original rail bed is used as a landscaping element in an onsite student park. Construction on Union Station was completed in 2013.

In a second news release, LS3P officials stated the firm was also ranked among the top 100 “Architecture/Design Giants” in Interior Design magazine’s 2015 annual Giants Survey, coming in at 69. The survey mentioned the firm’s recent notable projects including Live Oak Bank headquarters in Wilmington.

Founded in 1963, LS3P operates from its six offices in North and South Carolina, including Wilmington.
