Cara Cilano, a professor of English and grant program director at University of North Carolina Wilmington, was selected earlier this spring to receive a 2015 Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching. Created in 1994, the award is the highest honor given to faculty for teaching excellence, according to a news release from UNCW.

In addition to teaching, Cilano is the principal investigator of a recent $1 million grant from the U.S. State Department. The grant underwrites a partnership between UNCW and the International Islamic University, Islamabad.

“The Award for Excellence in Teaching encourages, identifies, recognizes, regards, and supports excellence in teaching within a university,” the release stated, adding that Cilano was to receive her award at the university’s May commencement exercises.
