Children's Museum Announces $700,000 Campaign Challenge Gift

By Jenny Callison, posted May 5, 2015
The Children’s Museum of Wilmington recently announced a challenge match of $700,000 to encourage lead gifts to the museum’s capital campaign, called the “Play with Purpose” campaign.

The matching gift is from a corporate partner “who wishes to remain anonymous at this time,” the museum’s news release stated.

The campaign’s launch, according to the release, is the start of a three-year effort to raise $3 million to accomplish three objectives. The first is to refurbish and expand the museum’s exhibits, programming and special events. The second is to increase programs of outreach to the community, providing access to all children and families in the region. The third is to renovate and maintain the Children’s Museum of Wilmington’s historic site and to increase the organization’s financial viability.

“Since 2008, the Children's Museum of Wilmington has reduced its operational budget by 72 percent and its expenses by 41 percent while maintaining services and increasing its daily programming and monthly special events, including free admission for families in need,” the release stated. “Positive cash flow and audits are a clear demonstration that the museum's leadership is moving the mission and vision forward. Family memberships doubled in the past couple of years with admissions topping over 65,000 visitors annually.”
