Hammerheads Add Four New Players

The Wilmington Hammerheads FC has recently added four players to its 2015 roster, according to announcements from the club.

Goalkeeper Andre Rawls joined the team after spending the past few months training with the New York City FC, the Hammerheads’ news release stated.

The team has signed Rawls to a professional contract for the USL regular season, so he is not on loan through MLS affiliate NYCFC, the release stated, adding, “Signing Rawls is an excellent example of the relationship that has been established between the two clubs.”

Rawls joins goalkeepers Larry Jackson and Matt Glaeser on the Hammerheads roster.

In a second transaction, the team has added Spanish defender Fran Martinez (at left).

“The left-footed center back spent preseason with the club’s Major League Soccer affiliate New York City FC following his time with Real Murcia, a Spanish club of the Second Division B,” the Hammerheads’ release stated.

“At 19 years old, Fran Martinez is another representation of a shift within our club towards the development of players and helping them reach success both within our club and beyond,” Hammerheads’ technical director and head coach Carson Porter said in the release. “He is young and has a lot to learn, but we are very confident that our culture, our style of play, and the experiences he will gain here will help both our club and his personal development.”

Most recently, the Hammerheads added midfielders Brian Anunga Tah (at left) and Christian Mougang Bassogog (at right) – both from Cameroon. The two players have joined the club for the remainder of the 2015 USL regular season.

Both were scouted on a trip to Cameroon that Wilmington Hammerheads FC General Manager Jason Arnold took in November, according to the release.

“The visit was a result of a budding partnership with Rainbow Sports Investments and Rainbow FC, an integrated sports group spanning the entire sports value chain,” the release stated, adding that the Hammerheads “looks forward to many more players coming to join our club through Kingsley Pungong and his staff in Cameroon.”
