Yasmin Tomkinson has been named interim executive director of the Cape Fear Literacy Council, the organization announced recently. Tomkinson has directed the CFLC’s adult literacy program for the past 10 years, according to a news release.

Tomkinson, who  holds an undergraduate degree from Vassar College and an MBA from Boston University, is “excited to use her extensive experience to help the agency grow and thrive in the community,” the release stated.

Susan Pomeroy has been the literacy council’s executive director for the past six months. During her tenure, she helped the agency focus on improved and updated operational and programming concepts, according to the release.

“Susan’s leadership and work with the board of directors has prepared the agency for a successful 2015 and beyond,” board chairwoman Rachel Pace said in the release.

Pomeroy, who the organization said will remain affiliated with CFLC as a volunteer and an operations consultant to the board, expressed confidence in Tomkinson's fit for the position.

“This is an important time of opportunity and potential growth for the Cape Fear Literacy Council," she said in the release. "It is with great confidence and enthusiasm that I have recommended that Yasmin step in to this new role."
