Cape Fear COG Announces Board Appointments, Awards

The Cape Fear Council of Governments recently announced its officers and executive board members for the year.
 
The officers are: chairwoman Debbie Sloan Smith (Ocean Isle Beach mayor); vice chairman Trent Burroughs (Columbus County Commissioners vice chairman); and secretary-treasurer Beth Dawson (New Hanover County Commissioners vice chairwoman).
 
Executive board members are: Foster McKoy, Charlie Rivenbark, Frank Williams, Howard Walker, George Brown and Lamont Grate.
 
The council also handed out awards. David Hollis, representing the town of Leland, received the Local Government Manager of the Year Award.
 
Brian Flanagan, a Brunswick County senior Tarheel legislator; Betty Grace, a New Hanover County senior Tarheel legislator; and Tom Jennings, a New Hanover County senior services volunteer, received Area Agency on Aging–What You Do Makes a Difference awards.
 
Shawn Ralston, New Hanover County planning manager, received the Outstanding Local Government Planner of the Year award.
