Wilmington-based Thomas Construction Group recently announced hirings to accommodate the company's growth.

The new employees are Annette Devore as the newest estimator in the Thomas Construction Group Preconstruction Department; Richard Santiago as Thomas’s first information technology specialist; and Billy Ries as safety manager, according to a news release.

Among his accomplishments, Santiago is a veteran of the U.S. Army and has an extensive background in information technology.

"Richard will lead Thomas’ transition from contracted IT work to an internal technical support system. He is most excited to be working within one company to build more personalized connections and programs, rather than responding to multiple companies with varied needs and specialties," according to the release.

Santiago spends most of his spare time with his wife and grandchildren.

When asked about the significance of transitioning from an outside IT provider to an in-house specialist, Ellie Cura, talent acquisition specialist, said in the release, “This is a huge step for the company and shows just how much growth Thomas has had. Richard’s position will allow for quicker and more accurate resolution of technical issues and will benefit the company on every level.”

Devore (pictured at right) joins Thomas with over 20 years of estimating and project management experience and prides herself on her ability to form effective and lasting relationships with clients, design teams, trade partners, and suppliers.

"Her attention to detail and varied project experience lend themselves to her unique perspective and approach to project bids," the release stated. "On a daily basis, Annette will be responsible for evaluating project specifications and drawings and ensuring that Thomas is able to build the most accurate and successful bid."

Devore has many interests outside of work, including a passion for clean wine (she works as a consultant for Scout & Cellar, in her spare time) and boating with her family, according to the release.

Originally a Texas native, she has been in North Carolina for more than 10 years.

Ries (pictured at right) is a graduate of Keene State College where he received his degree in occupational safety and health sciences, prior to working for OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration). Most recently, he was a project safety coordinator in Southern California, where he worked for a large power line company.

"Billy's proficiency in conducting field safety audits & incident investigations is a great benefit to the Thomas organization and he will be fundamental in developing and executing up-to-date safety programs," the release stated. "Billy will support all of our project teams and work with our superintendents regularly."
