Emeka Obiora Joins NHRMC General Surgery Specialists

Emeka Obiora has joined New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s Physician Specialists - General Surgery Specialists, as part of its surgical oncology team, according to a news release.

Obiora is offering a full range of surgical oncology services to include complex gastrointestinal, liver, pancreas, colorectal, esophageal, gastric, breast, thyroid and skin cancers. Obiora is seeing patients at the NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center.

Most recently, Obiora has been working as a surgical oncologist at Sentara Surgery Specialists - Surgical Oncology Cancer Network in Newport News, Virginia, officials said in the release. He has also been teaching as a rotation preceptor and clinical instructor at the Eastern Virginia Medical School’s School of Health Professions Physician Assistant Program.

NHRMC officials said Obiora’s experience as an educator and leadership skills will be a great addition to its team of surgeons.

Obiora received his Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Michigan. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

Obiora completed his residency at Temple University St. Luke’s School of Medicine. During his last year of residency, he was selected as the general surgery chief resident. He then completed his fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at Wake Forest School of Medicine.
