Ted Winneberger, a Lower Cape Fear Hospice physician, was recently recognized as a Champion of Hope honoree by Hope Abounds at its 4th Annual Diamonds & Champagne Ball.

He was one of three distinguished honorees selected from the area’s medical community who demonstrate compassionate care and enrich the lives of cancer patients.

“I was truly honored to be named as a Champion of Hope honoree by Hope Abounds,” Winneberger said. “But I feel I was just doing my job. There are so many others who have done much more than I have.”

Winneberger has devoted his life to providing care to people in southeastern North Carolina and beyond. As a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Winneberger started organizing multiple short term medical missions to Africa, Honduras, Dominican Republic and Haiti many years ago. He served on the board of ZOE ministry for six years as the medical consultant for all missionaries of the United Methodist Church through Global Ministries Wellness Program.

Along with New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Winneberger started a medical supply/equipment recycling program called Mission Ready. Mission Ready serves several charitable programs here and abroad, including shipping medical materials to Africa, the Caribbean and Central America.
