PPD Honored For Excellence In Clinical Research, Vaccine Standards

By Jenny Callison, posted May 10, 2016
Wilmington-based PPD received two distinctions in March.

The company was recognized for excellence in clinical research by pharmaceutical and biotechnology executives surveyed for Life Science Leader magazine’s 2016 CRO Leadership Awards, PPD announced in a news release.

PPD earned honors in 11 distinct categories in clinical research, including expertise, capabilities, reliability, compatibility and quality.

The honors are based on survey responses from more than 2,200 biopharmaceutical industry leaders responsible for making or influencing decisions to collaborate with contract research organizations on clinical development programs, the release stated.
The survey, conducted by Industry Standard Research, a pharmaceutical market research firm, encompassed 27 performance metrics

“Being recognized for excellence by the industry leaders best positioned to judge our progress is gratifying,” David Simmons, chairman and CEO of PPD, said in the release.

In a separate news release, PPD announced that it was named Best Contract Research Organization at the 9th Vaccine Industry Excellence Awards, held at the World Vaccine Congress 2016.

The ViE awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of leaders who continually set standards of excellence and advocacy in the vaccine industry, the release stated.

“PPD has more than 25 years of experience in providing a full range of vaccine testing services. This honor recognizes the expertise of our dedicated team members, who are experts and thought leaders in their individual disciplines and involved in establishing best practices for national and international regulatory organizations,” Bill Sharbaugh, PPD’s COO, said in the release.
