O2 Fitness Unveils New Center

By Jenny Callison, posted Dec 19, 2013
One of the area’s largest fitness centers has bulked up even more.

Raleigh-based O2 Fitness, which has maintained a comprehensive exercise facility at Mayfaire since 2005, opened its second Wilmington location Thursday, according to manager Justin Mascho.

Mascho heads up the new facility, located at 1315 Independence Blvd. in the Hanover Center shopping complex, while Brett Dagenhart manages the Mayfaire fitness center.

“The new location is three times larger than our Mayfaire location, at 28,000 square feet,” Mascho said. “We offer the same things, but [the Hanover Center location] has more space and more machines. For instance, we have 100 cardio machines – all brand new – and three separate group fitness rooms: one for yoga and Pilates, one for group fitness classes and one for cycling classes.”

Membership is on the upswing, especially with the new facility, Mascho added. According to membership numbers furnished to the Business Journal, O2 has about 4,000 members currently, up substantially from 2,500 reported a year ago.

While last-minute finishing touches were taking place Thursday, Mascho said that the Hanover Center facility would be completed by Monday.
“Overall, it looks really good,” he said.

O2 Fitness will hold a grand opening the first weekend of January at its new location.
