A healthcare product distributor based in Oceanside, N.Y., took ownership of Wilmington Medical Supply through a stock transaction on Oct. 1.
The volume of Medicaid providers in the area made Wilmington Medical Supply, a distributor of home medical supplies and equipment, attractive to Woodbury Health Products based in New York.
This is the company’s fourth acquisition in two years. In 2008, it acquired a company in Port Charlotte, Fla. and retained an office there. In 2009 it acquired a Massachusetts-based company and in January 2010 it acquired a company in Albertville, Ala., but rolled those offices into its existing offices.
“[Wilmington] is a great middle point from New York to Florida,” said Brian Darling, Woodbury CEO.
Wilmington Medical Supply distributes urological catheters and sterile kits to patients discharged from hospitals or other facilities, who require products for home use. It holds licenses with Medicare and Medicaid in 33 states and with most private insurance companies. The company was previously owned and formed by Martin Gallan, who owns A2Z Home Medical on Dawson Street.
The new owner, Woodbury Health Products, is a distributor of incontinence products. It plans to hire an additional 10 people in Wilmington. Wilmington Medical Supply currently employs about 15 people at its office on South 17th Street and warehouse near the Wilmington International Airport.
“We are excited about this acquisition and its strategic fit with Woodbury Health Products. Wilmington enhances our product offering and extends our customer base into patients currently requiring catheters. The acquisition furthers our strategy in helping Woodbury Health Products become a leading direct to consumer distributor of incontinence and related healthcare products in the U.S.,” Darling said in a press release.
Wilmington Medical Supply was founded in 1993 and has a client base of more than 700 customers.
Woodbury Health Products is private equity owned company part of HealthEdge Investment Partners, LLC.
