WilmingtonBiz Talk On The Blue Economy

By Vicky Janowski, posted Sep 23, 2021
This week's WilmingtonBiz Talk focused on the Blue Economy, a concept that has given rise to a growing local initiative to boost what the World Bank defines as “the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods and jobs while preserving the health of the ocean ecosystem.”

A local group has formed called the Alliance for a Blue Economy (All Blue), with an advisory board of science and business leaders focusing on increasing businesses in five Blue Economy sectors for the region.

To explain the concept, panelists for Thursday's Biz Talk were two of the people who have played key roles in bringing it to Southeastern North Carolina -- Diane Durance, former director of UNCW’s CIE, and Glenn Anderson, chairman of Cape Fear Ocean Labs’ board of directors and All Blue’s lead on one of its sector focuses.
