Wilmington Lands On Cities Attracting Tech In The South

Wilmington ranked highly on one list of best cities in the South for tech workers and businesses.
 
The Port City ranked 13th among Southern U.S. cities with populations of more than 200,000 on factors such as tech job density, median earnings and overall quality of life.
 
Commercial real estate blog CommercialCafe compiled its rankings based on nine metrics using publicly available data. Those categories included looking at the density of tech companies, median earnings in the tech industry, tech job growth and other factors.
 
According to the list:
 
• “Wilmington ranked 1st for tech establishment growth with a 27.9% hike between 2018 and 2022;
• The metro area placed 2nd for tech employment growth after a 106.5% increase from 2019 to 2023; and 
• Wilmington tech earnings have witnessed the 2nd-highest percentage increase among the ranking’s metros – a 36.3% growth from 2019 to 2023.”
Under the overall rankings, Washington, D.C., came out on top among Southern U.S. cities. Raleigh landed in third place.
