A Pennsylvania-based software developer has established an office in Wilmington and is offering its technology services to companies of all sizes in the Carolinas.
PS Solutions, located in University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), provides programming and software development and contract IT services. It can also place its IT professionals on site with customers. Its customers range from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups, businesses that need help – notably with .net, Java and Android platforms to foster their growth.
Managing Principal Wayne Hippo said Wednesday that his company did a lot of research before choosing Wilmington as its North Carolina location.
“We studied the market for a significant period of time. It is underserved in terms of what we do. Companies here are either struggling to find [IT] talent or they are outsourcing” their technology services, he said, citing the fact that many businesses use foreign tech companies, which can present difficulties related to time-zone, cultural and language differences.
“Technology is so important to every aspect of life today. We in the U.S. need to maintain control of our tech future,” Hippo said.
Established in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in 2009, PS Solutions expanded to Pittsburgh three years later, according to Hippo. As the company was ready for a second geographical expansion, the Carolinas seemed a promising region, and Wilmington a good base from which to grow its business in the region.
“There is plenty of potential and drive here,” Hippo said, noting the growth in health care, financial technology and service sectors especially.
PS Solutions has a business plan it follows, and, according to Hippo, locating in more affordable cities is an important aspect of the company’s mission to deliver high-quality work at the lowest possible cost. Over the next year it will staff up to meet demand. As its client roster grows, PS Solutions’ plan is to move from its startup office at the CIE to a development center of 1,500 square feet or so, and then to a larger space.
