A Publix grocery store is coming to Leland.

In an announcement Wednesday, company officials said they had signed a lease for a new store at Savannah Branch Town Center, a commercial development at U.S. 17 and Lanvale Road.

According to a news release, the 50,325-square-foot store will employ 140 associates.

"An opening timeframe has not yet been determined," the release stated.

Headquartered in Lakeland, Florida, Publix Super Markets entered the Wilmington area by opening its first store in 2016 at 716 Bragg Drive off South College Road in Wilmington.

A second Wilmington store opened in Ogden in 2017, and two years later, the chain began welcoming customers to its Carolina Beach location.
