Home Improvement Chain Adds Pet Supplies Concept At Hampstead Store

By Jenny Callison, posted Mar 24, 2023

Dogs sometimes accompany their owners on shopping expeditions to Lowe’s stores. Now, the home improvement retailer is going a step further: Through a partnership with Petco, Lowe's is becoming a source for pet supplies and even veterinary services at a growing number of locations.

One of those locations is Lowe's of Surf City in Hampstead. Starting Saturday, the store at 106 Wilkes Lane will stock supplies for cats and dogs.

“Lowe’s is a pet-friendly retailer committed to bringing pet and home offerings under one roof, and this expansion follows the brand’s successful launch of fifteen pilot store concepts last year as 70% of U.S. households – the equivalent to 90.5 million families – now own a pet,” Friday’s announcement stated.

Several of those pilot programs ran in Lowe's stores in North and South Carolina. Lowe's is based in Mooresville, North Carolina.

Hampstead is among the earliest stores to open its Petco segment in the current rollout. The Lowe's + Petco expansion will continue through the summer and involve more than 260 Lowe’s locations across the U.S., according to the announcement. Of those locations, 150 will be equipped with Vetco vaccination clinics.
