The sun could soon be rising for a new breakfast and lunch spot in midtown Wilmington.

Amanecer Cocina & Cafe, described as a Mexican restaurant on its Facebook page, will fill the space previously occupied by Krazy Pizza & Subs in Cornerstone Center, 1616 Shipyard Blvd. Amanecer is the Spanish word for "sunrise."

The restaurant is a new concept from the Ibarra family, said Ed Godwin, owner of Cornerstone Center. The Ibarras are known for local restaurants El Cerro Grande, El Arriero Taqueria, and Zocalo Street Food and Tequila, among others.

The restaurant owners have revamped the 3,000-square-foot space, Godwin said, and they are expected to open Amanecer Cocina & Cafe soon, possibly in April. Efforts to reach an owner for more details on Amanecer were not immediately successful Tuesday.

Godwin said he's excited restaurateurs of their caliber are opening an establishment in his center. "These folks have been very successful for over 30 years and they are hands-on operators," he said.

On the restaurant's Facebook page, a post in February said, "Mis Amigos, we are eager to open our doors to give you the best experience so that you start your days with excellent energy."
