Culinary Showcase Our Place Reopens, But To Limited Capacity

By Jenny Callison, posted Oct 13, 2021
There is good news for fans of Cape Fear Community College’s Our Place restaurant – sort of.

After remaining closed for some months because of the COVID-19 virus, the showcase for CFCC’s hospitality management and culinary arts programs has reopened to the public for its regular fall semester Wednesday dinner service. The catch? Our Place is fully booked for the rest of the semester.

“We have limited capacity because the pandemic limited enrollment in some of the more advanced classes that execute” the restaurant’s food and service, said Chef Jaime Chadwick, who oversees the college’s culinary arts and baking and pastries programs.

With the number of students available this semester, Chadwick said, Our Place has reduced its maximum number of diners from 40 or more to about 20.

“Hopefully in the spring semester, we’ll be able to open things back up again [to normal capacity]. Our program enrollment for next semester is up,” Chadwick said.

During the spring semester, which begins in January, Our Place will offer a three-course lunch every Wednesday at its location at 403 Water St. in downtown Wilmington.

The cuisine of a different country or region will be featured each week, according to the Our Place website.

The price is $10 per person, paid either by cash or check. Tips are not accepted but donations to the college’s student clubs are welcome, Chadwick said.
