Eatery17 chef and owner Jon Heller posted to his personal Facebook account July 21 that Eatery17 will not be reopening.
While Heller did not wish to share the details of the closure of the Asian fusion restaurant, he said he has taken a new job within the film industry.
A post to Eatery17’s Facebook page from May 28 stated that the restaurant at 2547 S. 17th St. would be closed for the month of June in order to provide catering for the film industry and planned to reopen to the public in July.
The following is from Heller’s July 21 post: “We have other opportunities that we simply cannot pass up. Thank you so much for your support through these years; it was a fun eight years and we will miss you all so much! Please be safe and God bless!”
CheeseSmith celebrated the grand opening of its brick-and-mortar location at 624 S. 17th St. in the Cargo District on Sunday, July 25.
The menu includes eight of its signature grilled cheeses, as well as beer cheese French fries, Parmesan French fries, Smith fries with beer cheese sauce, smoked pulled pork, pickled red onions and green onions and tomato and roasted red pepper soup.
Current hours are listed as 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. A beer and wine permit still pending, but guests are invited to B.Y.O.B. or purchase non-alcoholic beverages onsite.
Also new to the Cargo District is New Town Roastery. Serving coffee from around the world that is roasted in Wilmington, New Town rebranded from Wilmington Coffee earlier this year.
They recently partnered with End of Days Distillery to use the distillery’s house-made tonics, syrups and distillations in their coffees.
They’ve named their Ethiopian blend “Start of Days” in honor of the new alliance. New Town Roastery is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
