Gregory Farms Vineyard Launches Wine Label

In 1987, Paul and Martha Gregory bought a 113-acre blueberry farm in Currie, North Carolina, about a 15-minute drive from Wilmington.

Over the years they not only grew blueberries but with the growth of their family, the farm grew to 251 acres, ponds were dug and an old tobacco barn was relocated and restored into living quarters. Gregory Farms became a place for family and friends to gather.

In 2012, Paul Gregory passed away at the age of 89, but the farm stayed in the family. His son Alan and his wife, Pam, bought the farm from the family estate in 2016 and began revitalizing it. The couple planted new blueberry plants as well as a small vineyard of muscadine grapes and began preparing to host private events on the property.

Now the couple has partnered with another muscadine grower in Smithfield, as well as a vineyard and winemaker in Lexington, to produce wine under the Gregory Farms Vineyard label. The farm held a grand opening to celebrate the release of the wines earlier this month.

The label includes several wines, three muscadines, a Sangria, a rosé, a Chardonnay, a Merlot, a traditional Cabernet and a double-barrel Cabernet aged for 10 months in oak barrels and an additional six months in Jack Daniels barrels. Wines range from $14 to $26 dollars a bottle.

Gregory Farms Vineyard is currently open every other weekend, with the next weekend being Nov. 21-22.  All wines can be purchased at the vineyard and visitors can enjoy wines by the glass or bottle, wine flights, wine slushies and draft beer from Wrightsville Beach Brewery, as well as a food truck and live music from Bill Powell on Saturday.

Guests are encouraged to roam the grounds and find a seat by the pond to enjoy the beverage of their choice.

“It’s a great place to get outside,” Pam Gregory said. “There’s lots of seating and plenty of room to distance.”

While no outside alcohol can be brought in, guests are welcome to bring snacks or a picnic to enjoy on the grounds.

Gregory Farms Vineyard is currently booking private events and a new website will be up and running in a week or so. In the meantime, social media sites will be updated regularly with hours of operation and special events.

Gregory Farms Vineyard is located at 2576 Montague Road in Currie.
