Bitty & Beau’s Coffee will open its third store this weekend, this time expanding to Savannah, Georgia.

Co-founder and CEO Amy Wright, who started the venture with her husband in 2016, describes Bitty & Beau’s as a human rights movement disguised as a coffee shop. Wright is the recipient of the 2017 CNN Hero of the Year Award, and mother of Bitty and Beau, for whom the shop is named.

Just as the flagship Wilmington location and the Charleston, South Carolina, location that opened early last year, the Savannah shop will be run by employees with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

“We created Bitty & Beau’s Coffee to show the world that people with disabilities should be valued, accepted and included members of society, especially in the workplace,” Wright said. “It’s a place where diversity is not just appreciated, it's celebrated.”

When Savannah was selected as the third location for Bitty & Beau’s last May, Wright told the Greater Wilmington Business Journal that the city was selected for its proximity to Wilmington and Charleston, as well as the fact that it afforded the opportunity to reach visitors from across the country who may not yet have heard of the company and its mission.

The 1,500-square-foot space was designed by LS3P and is located at 319 W. Congress St., in the heart of Savannah's historic downtown.

The Wrights said they have plans to open a total of 10 locations across the U.S. in the coming years.
