Your Pie Gives Back

When Your Pie opened its doors in February, the eatery celebrated a soft opening by serving nearly 1,200 pizzas to guests who were asked to make a donation to the Cape Fear Literacy Council rather than paying for their pizza.

Owner Jada O’Malley said she felt it was the best way to work out the kinks and kickstart her Dine and Donate initiative. The three-day event raised nearly $4,000 for the literacy council, O’Malley said.

Since that time, O’Malley has dedicated every Tuesday to a charitable cause, be it an individual or family facing medical expenses, a non-profit organization or a local school or civic organization.

“If someone in need comes to us, we put them on the books,” O’Malley said. “Sometimes that means hosting fundraisers on other nights in addition to Tuesdays.”

O’Malley said 20 percent of each Tuesday’s sales are allocated to the organizations, provided customers mention they are there in support of Dine and Donate.

“We always make mention of it though,” O’Malley said. “That way nearly every sale supports the fundraiser.

She also allows the organizations to sell merchandise at the door and accepts credit card donations. She educates her staff each week on the organization they are helping to support, and said she is proud of how excited they are to give back.

Upcoming Tuesday Dine and Donate partnerships include a school supply drive sponsored by Blue Coast Realty on July 24, and the Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry (WARM) on July 31.

“This is turning into exactly what we had hoped,” O’Malley said. “Our goal has always been to be a part of the community and nothing feels better than doing something for someone else.”

Your Pie is located at 4403 Oleander Drive, Suite H.
