The 15th annual N.C. Blueberry Festival is scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday in historic downtown Burgaw, promising fun for the whole family.

The festival celebrates the historic, economic and cultural significance of blueberries in the southeastern region of the state.

North Carolina is one of the largest producers of highbush blueberries, according to the N.C. Cooperative Extension, with the vast majority of producers located in Southeastern North Carolina.

More than 30,000 people have been estimated to attend the annual event held on the third weekend in June each year.

More than 100 volunteers will be on hand to stage over 20 events ranging from live music to a car show, a street fair, a recipe contest, a barbecue cook-off, a 5K run, a bike ride, a model train show, a BMX stunt show and a scholarship pageant.

Festival proceeds provide scholarships to deserving seniors in the blueberry producing counties; Bladen, Duplin, New Hanover, Pender, and Sampson.

For a full schedule of events, visit the festival's website.
