Funding Available For Workforce, Affordable Housing Projects

By Staff Reports, posted Jul 12, 2024

New Hanover County offcials are looking for developers and agencies to vie for funds set aside for workforce and affordable housing.

For-profit and nonprofit entities can submit proposals for the money through 5 p.m. Aug. 5.

The Workforce Housing Services Program has $3 million allocated for this funding cycle, according to a news release.

"This marks the third year of the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners’ commitment to fund a five-year, not-less-than $15 million plan designed to increase the county’s supply of workforce housing," the release stated.

According to the release, each RFP will be judged on eligibility criteria and priorities established in the Workforce Housing Services Program. The county held information sessions about the program in June.

"This framework was built around findings from the Joint County/City Comprehensive Housing Study and has been designed to address the community’s housing needs by increasing the supply of residential units, retaining existing affordable housing stock and increasing residents’ access to those homes," the release stated.
