Rezoning Request For 758 Acres In The Works

By Staff Reports, posted Jan 15, 2024
One of the largest homebuilders in the area and the U.S. is seeking a rezoning from New Hanover County officials for 758 acres on Sidbury Road.

A community meeting on the request, which is being made by engineering firm McKim & Creed Inc. on behalf of homebuilder D.R. Horton Inc. and property owner Corbett Industries Inc., is set to take place Feb. 6.

According to the meeting notice, the applicants want to change the property's zoning from its R-15 residential designation to a Planned Development zoning to allow for a mixed-use development.

Efforts to reach a representative from D.R. Horton for more information about the project were not immediately successful.

A conceptual plan is expected to be sent to people who own property within 500 feet of the site (outlined in red at right) in the coming weeks, according to McKim & Creed Inc.

"The purpose of the community information meeting is to explain the proposal and answer questions from meeting attendees," the notice states.

The meeting is scheduled to be held Feb. 6 at Northside Church, A Building, Room 1, 2501 N. College Road, according to the notice.
