With New MLS Head, Cape Fear Realtors To Stick With Listing Service

By Johanna Cano, posted Mar 11, 2019
N.C. Regional Multiple Listing Service officials have appointed Daniel Jones as its new CEO, the group announced. Meanwhile, Cape Fear Realtors, which previously threatened to withdraw from the NCRMLS, now plans on staying.

Jones succeeds Doris Nurenberg, the former CEO, who left in December and starts in his position on March 16. Jerry Panz served as interim CEO during the search for a new leader.

Jones most recently served as the chief information officer for Cape Fear Realtors, according to according to a press release Friday. In that role he was responsible for increasing the quality of MLS data, ensuring members knew how to leverage MLS rules and supporting onboarding and customer management systems, the release stated.

In December Cape Fear Realtors officials announced that the group, along with the Brunswick County Association of Realtors, would withdraw from the NCRMLS effective June 1 because of technical and business issues.

“We believe it is the best fit for Cape Fear Realtors and for our region members and subscribers,” Sherri Prigden, president of Cape Fear Realtors, said Monday about staying with the listing service. “Previous concerns were addressed, and board managers decided to stay within the Regional MLS.”

Some of the concerns previously listed included security and accuracy of the data.

The BCAR board of directors now will decide whether it will remain with the NCRMLS, BCAR CEO Cynthia Walsh said.

“We had made an official announcement stating the board of directors would wait until a new CEO was hired and then they would evaluate,” Walsh said Monday. “They might discuss it in its upcoming meeting in March.”

The NCRMLS conducted an exhaustive search to find the new CEO, said Ellen Hough, president of NCRMLS’s board of managers.

“Daniel Jones has demonstrated a skill for bringing contemporary ideas to the table during his years of experience working for brokerages and MLSs,” Hough said in the release. “Daniel has the local knowledge and experience, blended with national perspectives learned in his CMLX training and regular attendance at national conferences we need.”

Before working at CFR, Jones worked as IT analyst for Intracoastal Realty.

The NCRMLS is the third-largest MLS in the state with about 6,400 brokers who access data on property listings, history and integrated tax information for all 100 counties in NC and four counties in South Carolina.
