Shane Johnson, chief operating officer of Cape Fear Realtors, is leaving for a position in Texas, officials said Wednesday.

Johnson has been hired as the new CEO for the San Antonio Board of Realtors (SABOR) in San Antonio, according to a news release. Johnson was first hired as the governmental affairs director for CFR at the end of 2013.

“Wilmington has been a great place to live and work,” said Johnson in the release. “We will miss the nice people that live here and all the Port City has to offer.”

Taylor Oldroyd, CEO of Cape Fear Realtors, said in the announcement, “Shane’s been an integral part of our team. We work well together and he will be greatly missed.”

Fred Gainey, president of CFR, said Johnson's new role is a wonderful opportunity and reflects well on the quality of CFR's staff.

"As a direct result of his leadership in both advocacy and community engagement, we received the National Community Outreach Award last year from the National Association of Realtors,” Gainey said in the release.

Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo said in the announcement that Johnson has been "a great partner in the community. His efforts to build positive communication have had a big impact in the region. San Antonio is very fortunate.”

San Antonio is the seventh most-populated metro area in the United States, the release stated. SABOR is the largest association in the San Antonio area, with 10,500 members.

According to the release, Johnson’s first day at SABOR is June 18, and his position at CFR will not be filled immediately.
