By Alison Lee Satake, posted Nov 30, 2010

A Wilmington home received recognition by the U.S. Green Building Council’s 2010 LEED for Homes Award for Outstanding Single Family Project.

Local architect Jay DeChesere’s LEED platinum home located at 3404 Talon Court in Wilmington was recognized at the international conference and expo for green building in Chicago this month. It is the first gut rehab in North Carolina to receive a platinum rating under LEED for Homes. The three bedroom, two bathroom house was also certified as an N.C. State University HealthyBuilt Home, according to a press release.

A local design team comprising general contractor Bill Christopher of ILM Design Build, landscape architect Lara Berkley of B+O Design Studio, interior designer Jennifer France of Big Sky Design, civil engineer Nick Lauretta of McKim and Creed, energy rater Skye Dunning of Building Performance Specialists, green rater Mark Jabaley of Above and Beyond Energy, architect Jay DeChesere and designer Heather DeChesere worked together on the project.

The house is the residence and offices of Jay and Heather DeChesere.

From the project new business venture was launched. The Sustainable Design Collaborative consists of an architect, contractor, landscape architect, interior designer and energy rater, who have joined forces to perform assessments of existing homes and design new green homes.
