An entity registered to the CEO of Cape Fear Solar Systems has submitted site plans to the city of Wilmington for a short-term rental development at Second and Dawson streets.

According to site plans, the project would consist of a three-story structure with 10 two-bedroom units and a roof deck at 910 S. Second St., behind Cape Fear Solar Systems' existing facility at 901 S. Front St. The 2.6-acre site is zoned urban mixed-use (UMX) and was granted a special-use permit in 2019.

According to site plans by Stroud Engineering, Le Dome Holdings, an entity registered to Cape Fear Solar Systems CEO John Donoghue, submitted the latest proposal. The plans were posted on the city's development tracking website in February, but as of Tuesday, the site had not yet listed a date for a city technical review.

A Cape Fear Solar Systems spokesperson said the company would have more information to share about the project at a later date.

Previously, officials said they would be adding more to the Cape Fear Solar Systems campus, where they celebrated the opening of their new facility in May 2023. In 2019, their plans for one of the phases of the development included solar-powered residential structures.

According to its website, Cape Fear Solar Systems has been serving the Cape Fear region since 2007. In addition to solar panel installation, the company also offers home batteries, electric vehicle charging and production monitoring, the website states.
