Checking In On Plans For Midtown Hotel

By Cece Nunn, posted Jul 24, 2020
The development of a hotel at The Pointe at Barclay commercial center in midtown Wilmington is moving forward.

Civil engineers completed their drawings, and they’ve been submitted to the city of Wilmington, said Mehul Patel, of Georgia-based Ideal Hospitality Investments Inc., the firm creating a Home2 Suites by Hilton near The Pointe 14 movie theater.

The hotel's progress was “just a little delayed” by the coronavirus pandemic, Patel said.

“We hope to have everything lined up by the end of the year and to break ground by the first quarter of next year,” Patel said.

Announced last year, the Home2 Suites by Hilton at 2171 Stone Crop Drive is expected to be four stories with at least 104 guest rooms, according to site plans by Paramounte Engineering Inc.

The plans also show that the hotel is expected to have four meeting rooms and an outdoor pool.

A discussion on the plans is expected to take place during the city of Wilmington’s Technical Review Committee meeting on July 30, according to the city’s project tracking website.

Wilmington Hotel Investors LLC, an entity of Ideal Hospitality of Pooler, Georgia, bought the 2-acre hotel site in May of last year for $1.2 million. It previously belonged to Barclay Commons Retail II LLC.

Ideal Hospitality is an owner-operator company that has hotels throughout the Southeast, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

The Pointe at Barclay, a dining and entertainment complex anchored by the theater and bordered by South 17th Street and Independence Boulevard, is a development by Cameron Management of Wilmington and Charlotte-based Collett.
