Rounds Golf & Lounge, an indoor golf venue, restaurant and bar, is coming to Mayfaire.

Professional golfer Bryce Edmister, a Wilmington resident, said he and partners John Spencer and Denis Ing hope to open Rounds before the end of 2018 at 6801 Parker Farm Drive, between Roko Italian Cuisine and fast food chain Five Guys at Mayfaire Community Center.

"The way I describe it to most people is it's an upscale, indoor version of Topgolf," Edmister said Tuesday, referring to the golf entertainment chain that has locations nationwide.

It's not the only new indoor golf venue coming to the Port City. A Wilmington couple is planning to open Club Golf Indoor at RiverLights off River Road.

Edmister said the 4,000-square-foot Rounds will include three smaller Full Swing Golf Simulators, along with a VIP Full Swing Simulator that will be roughly 18 feet wide. In addition to courses, more than 20 golf games, Rounds is expected to have field goal kicking and bocce ball among its simulated offerings.

"Golf is our main focus, but we do have other opportunities for people who maybe golf isn't their love," he said.

Edmister, whose father was a PGA golf professional, said he has been playing golf all his life, including for Bingham University on a full scholarship. After college, he played on mini-tours and this past summer, he had a chance to play in a Web.com Tour event, missing the cut to move forward by only one shot, Edmister said.

He said playing in the Web.com Tour event was fun, but about 14 months ago, Edmister started working on the idea for Rounds as a way to supplement his golf career.

He said another large part of Rounds will be golf instruction, something he discovered a knack for while teaching a young golfer in Landfall who's gone from being a beginner at 10 years old to shooting under par at age 12.

"I perceive our demographic to be anywhere from the novice golfer all the way up to professionals," Edmister said. "I've got buddies who play professionally, and they're excited to come in and use our technology."

In addition to a full bar, Rounds will have a kitchen that's expected to serve a variety of offerings, including bruschetta, cheese plates, charcuterie, sandwiches, salads, chicken, brisket and nachos.
