Work On Wilmington Seeks Nonprofit Projects To Complete

By Staff Reports, posted Sep 23, 2022
The organizers of Work on Wilmington (WOW), an annual day of service that brings together hundreds of volunteers to simultaneously complete service projects across the city, are seeking projects to work on from nonprofit organizations.

Organized by Leadership Wilmington, a civic leadership development program of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce Foundation, WOW is a four-hour event that this year coincides with Earth Day on April 22.

"As in past years we are seeking projects that will meet specific needs and provide tangible benefits for our community." according to a news release.

The release encouraged Wilmington-area nonprofits, local governmental organizations or schools in need of a helping hand to submit their applications online. The deadline is Oct. 17.

According to the release, eligible projects must be able to be completed in four hours and have tangible benefits.

"Projects that require large numbers of volunteers are preferred. For your benefit (and ours) projects that require potentially dangerous work (such as roofing, use of scaffolding, heavy use of sophisticated power tools, and excavation equipment) are not suitable for WOW. However, this shouldn’t limit your creativity," the release stated. "We are eager to tackle larger projects that require ingenuity, creativity and especially those that might allow us to incorporate the Earth Day theme."
