No. of local employees: 5

Year founded: 2018, rebranded and reorganized in 2023

Top local official: Gary Brock, founder and chief flavor officer

Company description: Drink’N Pretzel makes seasoned sourdough pretzel pieces. Officials say the company began with the mission of creating a snack that pairs with a range of drinks from a cold craft beer to a soda or a cup of coffee. That resulted in Drink’N Pretzel’s signature seasoned sourdough pretzel pieces, which feature bold flavors and a medium crunch.

Products made locally: The company makes an array of pretzel flavors at its Castle Hayne production facility, including S.P.G.B., Southwest Buffalo Blaze, Honey Mustard and Onion, Creamy Cheddar Bliss, Smokehouse Rancherz, Churro and Moo Cow Mojo. All pretzels are sold in resealable bags that range from 4 ounces to 12 ounces.

Product distribution: Drink’N Pretzel sells its products at several local businesses, including Jimmy’s Wrightsville Beach, The Butcher’s Market and Mad Mole Brewing, among others.

What made the company decide to make its goods locally? Brock: “We recognized a demand for high-quality snack food made from our proprietary blend of seasonings, perfectly complementing the brewery and culinary vibe here in Wilmington."

What’s your target market? The company’s target customers range from local foodies and tourists to health-conscious snackers. The company also targets local grocery and specialty stores and online customers. Brock: “By targeting these diverse groups, Drink’N Pretzels can establish a strong presence in both the local market and beyond, appealing to a wide range of consumers who value flavor, quality and the local community.”

What’s next? Brock: “We’re thrilled to announce our latest flavor to be released in July called Goin’ Coastal. This exciting new addition is a delightful blend inspired by the flavors of the coast, featuring hints of sea salt, key lime and mango margaritas capturing the essence of our beautiful coastal region.” The flavor is a collaboration with the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. A portion of the proceeds from each bag sold will be donated to the center’s efforts to protect and preserve local sea turtle populations.
