Cape Fear Community College is hosting a talent show of sorts Wednesday afternoon.
 
The college, which offers an array of courses and programs related to the construction industry, will host a construction industry career fair at its North Campus from 2 to 4 p.m. There is no cost to attend.
 
“The career fair is an excellent opportunity for current students and public members interested in pursuing a career in the construction industry to explore their options and connect with potential employers,” CFCC’s news release stated.
 
The event, which will feature more than 40 area trade companies looking for talent, provides an excellent opportunity for CFCC students to explore career paths and connect with local employers, said Gina Mecca, the college’s career development coordinator.
 
“With the ongoing demand for skilled workers in this field, it is great to see local businesses investing in our students and community,” she said. “I strongly encourage our students and community members to attend and take advantage of the resources and information available at the career fair. It's a chance to make valuable connections and explore potential career paths that can lead to fulfilling and lucrative careers.”
 
Thomas Construction Group will be among the companies represented, and their recruiter, Ellie Cura, will be looking for college students who would like to spend the summer as a construction management intern with the company. The internships are paid and offer some other benefits.
 
“Every summer we provide [interns] with the opportunity to apply what they’re learning in school to hands-on experiences,” she said Tuesday. “They job-shadow our operations team and our pre-construction department. Under operations, they shadow project managers and superintendents. Under pre-construction, they will work alongside our estimators.”
 
Thomas Construction, which specializes in commercial health care, senior living and multifamily projects, plans to bring on eight interns this summer. The company has previously hosted students from as far away as Alabama, Iowa and Indiana.
 
Other employers will also be on the lookout for potential interns as well as full- and part-time employees, CFCC’s news release stated.
 
Along with the employers, representatives from CFCC’s construction industry programs will attend the event. Those programs include construction management, HVAC, plumbing, engineering, landscaping, interior design, architectural technology and welding.
 
The event takes place in the NA Building on the North Campus, 4500 Blue Clay Road in Castle Hayne. Job seekers are encouraged to bring their resumes and to dress professionally. Click here for more information.
