The New Hanover County Airport Authority unanimously voted this week to end Julie Wilsey's role as airport director.

"The airport authority has decided to vote to opt-out of Mrs. Wilsey's employment agreement," airport authority chair Donna Girardot said Thursday. The vote took place Tuesday, she said.

Wilsey will continue to serve as Wilmington International Airport's director for 30 days, Girardot said.

"She has 30-days notice," she said. "She is still employed with the airport for 30 days. She is still the director for 30 days."

Asked if Wilsey was being fired or the reasoning behind the vote, Girardot declined to comment.

Wilsey has been ILM's airport director since 2015 and has been working at the airport for more than two decades in various roles, starting as director of facilities and serving as deputy airport director before being voted in to fill the top position after former director Jon Rosborough retired.

In recent years, she has helped oversee the airport's $61 million renovations and expansion project, which kicked off in 2018, and weathered the massive disruptions in air travel last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wilsey did not immediately respond to comment on the decision. Harry Stovall, vice chair of the authority, and Lee Williams, an authority member, declined to comment about their votes when reached Thursday.
